The Sunday Scoop - June 21, 2015

It's been awhile since I've participated in The Sunday Scoop, but now that it's summer, summer, summertime, I'm totally ready to dive back in to this link up with The Teaching Trio.

Things I have to do:
1. Vacuum - the only thing that is normal about Sundays when it's summer vacation.
2. When I clean out my clothes, I make piles: donations and resells. If I know I can possibly resell an item, I pop it on eBay and set the minimum price and guess what…it usually sells! I've tried Clothes Mentor, but find that I'm always disappointed with the amount that they give me, so I'd rather try eBay and if worse comes to worse, I'll just donate anything that doesn't sell.  When they do sell, that's money back in my pocket for guess what? More clothes! I've got a pretty decent pile going so I need to get things up and selling today!
3. I didn't go all in on the Makeover Madness because I was sick when it all kind of kicked off, but I did get my Hate That Cat Literature Pack finished this week, which made me look back at my Love That Dog Literature Pack and I want to make some big changes to that now, so keep an eye out for revisions this week if you already own it.

Two Things I hope to do
1. I have lots of blog post ideas going through my head, even a series on writing. I just have to force my attention span to stay with me long enough to actually compose.
2. When it all gets too overwhelming, I'm going to just take a break with one of my favorite authors, Jen Lancaster. She always seems to release a new book just in time for summer and her books are quite hilarious, which is exactly the kind of book I need as I'm decompressing from the long school year.

One Thing I am happy to do
During the school year, Sundays are usually my planning/have a meltdown days. I wouldn't say that I am the most enjoyable person on Earth that day. So it's so nice for the hubby and I to get quality time together on a Sunday without me feeling like I should be doing something else. Ahhhhh, I love summer!

Math is Real Life June Edition: My Morning Workout

It's been awhile since I linked up for Math is Real Life, but I've actually been preparing for this post for awhile and I'm excited to finally share the math that starts my weekdays! This month, I'm sharing about my morning workout and the many aspects of math that are involved.

First of all, I get up at 4:15 in the morning. I should've taken a picture of my alarm clock, but let's face it, I'm not totally awake when that alarm goes off. Nonetheless, I get up, read some emails and check the news feed for anything I missed in my 7 hours of sleep, and then I get ready for the gym. I leave the house around 4:40 to get to the gym when they open at 5:00. Needless to say, from the moment that alarm goes off, I'm calculating time. How much time do I have before I have to leave? How much time do I have to get there? These are math questions I am asking myself at the very beginning of my day! 

Once I get to the gym, I have to check my phone to see what time I am starting so that I can figure out how long I have to workout. I have to leave the gym by 5:50am so that I can make it home in time to shower, eat breakfast, and get ready for work so that I can leave for school no later than 6:50a.m. I'm definitely working on a tight schedule! 

While I am there, I am looking at a lot of data on the screen of the machine that I am on. I always workout on at least two different machines each day so my routine doesn't get boring. That means that I have to keep track of the calories that I burn from one machine to another so that I will be able to figure out how many calories I actually burned.

 For me, the calories and distance area really important, as is my pace. I usually set new goals for the next day to keep my workouts challenging. I might decide that I want to increase my average pace, increase the distance, or burn 40 more calories. Having all of this data on the screen really helps me to set my next goal!  

When my workout is done, I have to add up all of my calories that I've burned. When I remember, I put them in to my Fitness Pal so I can keep track of my calories all day. I have to get better about this step though! 

So it turns out, if you workout, math is all around you!
