The Sunday Scoop - February 8, 2015

Oh Sunday, how DO you get here so fast? And how is it February 8th already? My goodness, the time is certainly flying! Nevertheless, Sunday workday is here, and that means that my first stop on the procrastination station will be linking up with The Teaching Trio for The Sunday Scoop

This is one of my favorite weekly linkies because it always gets me thinking about those items on my to-do list for a successful week.

Three things I have to do:
1) Ah yes, lesson plans. The funny thing about this is that I don't actually have to turn plans in at my current school, but I really can't imagine what it would be like if I didn't do plans at all. I've come to rely on creating them to prepare myself for the week.
2) Restructure my reading groups. I was our for two days last week. When I came back, I realized that our reading rotations have lost some of their structure so Friday I just sat down with my students and talked about what is going well, what isn't, and what my expectations are. I'm ready to turn rotations upside down this week and get my students back to business!
3) Author's purpose. Author's viewpoint. Author's choice. Seriously, we've been told so many different things that my head is spinning, and I must figure this out as our state seems to be changing the structure of the questions ALL THE TIME. This will probably be my biggest project today. I hope to come out of it with a resource I can add to TpT!

Two things I hope to do:
1) I'm actually ahead on my blog posts and I feel like they are getting better and I'm finally getting the chance to share some real lessons of substance. I want to keep this momentum up if I can!
2) With all of the above, it would not seem as I will have much time to, but I have to remember to relax and not overdo it. I've been sick ever since I returned from NYC. It hit me hard last week, forcing me to miss two days, then fooling me into thinking I was getting better before it packed a mean punch on Friday. It's been a weekend of nothing, which is ok, because it saves me money <------hahahaha…wait, that's SO not true…I just spent all of my money shopping on jane.com getting all of those last minute deals before they sell out. Let me try that again, a weekend of nothing is fine, BUT I am totally OVER being sick. Even worse, the hubby is sick now too, so we're just a couple of miserable, stuffy couch potatoes right now! I can't wait to feel like myself again!

Sorry about that little tangent. I just hate being sick.

One thing I am happy to do:
Make Sunday pasta! My taste buds may be off, but there's nothing like a Sunday spaghetti to at least make my belly happy for a bit! Since I freeze my sauce, it's even pretty quick and easy, which I'm clearly needing right now!

Wishing you all a happy and healthy week! A long weekend is ahead, maybe even longer for those of you that have that wonderful mid-winter break to look forward to. Make a difference with every moment! Don't forget to head over to The Teaching Trio to get the scoop on other teacher bloggers and link up!

  3. Hi Rachel,
Sorry you're sick. Seems to be going around. Must be this time of year. I also never had to turn in plans but had to have them available and out in case our principal walked into our room and wanted to see them. I always had plans out too. Sunday spaghetti sounds awesome. I freeze my sauce too. Helps for those "What's for dinner?" nights when I just don't feel like cooking. Happy Sunday!

    1. I have a bunch of those "make it and freeze it" crock pot meals pinned, but I've yet to try one. I dream of having 5 meals frozen and ready to just dump in the crock pot each morning. Maybe that will be my summer goal!

  4. Rachel, so sorry to hear you have been sick. My daughter was sick, too, then felt better and went back to work only to end up back in the doctor's office sick again. Whatever this stuff is, it doesn't want to let go, does it?!

    1. It doesn't! My hubby has it now too and I'm hoping that he only goes one round with it. We have dinner reservations at our favorite restaurant for Valentine's Day and I'm hoping we won't have to cancel. I hope that your daughter is feeling better! I think we're all ready for spring to arrive!

  5. We do not get a mid-winter break in FL but at least we have next Monday off! I'd love to get into making more meals ahead that I could freeze - that would be so helpful!!

    1. I still can't believe that I was in the dark on scheduling blog posts for so long. I only learned of scheduled FB posts last summer! They make life so much easier! Thank you for the well wishes!

  8. I don't have to turn my lesson plans in either, but I can't imagine trying to teach having done them. I think I would be lost all day long! I hope you get to feeling better soon!
