The Sunday Scoop - January 18, 2015

Happy Sunday! It's time for another weekly link-up with The Teaching Trio for the Sunday Scoop!

After you read what I am up to, I hope that you'll head over and find out what other teacher bloggers are up to this week!

Here's what I'm up to:

3 things I have to do:
1. We're out of the essentials so grocery shopping MUST be done today!
2. Since I leave for NYC on Friday, I need to get my suitcase out of the closet and figure out if checking zero bags is even a possibility. I also want to pack as much as I can now so I am not in full blown panic mode on Thursday night.
3. We also have to clean today as my dreams of winning the lotto and hiring a housekeeper have yet to happen.

2 things I hope to do:
1. I want every stack of grading done. Our grading period ends soon and since I know I won't be doing any grading next week, I want to be sure I am TOTALLY caught up before I leave on Friday so that I'll only have to grade anything from Friday, which is a half day anyway.
2. Our fifth graders used to take a state writing test, but they took that away this year. Hooray, right? Nope. We now have to replace it with a research project (two months long) and still do an essay portion in April. We've figured out the topics that they can choose from, but since this is new, we're lacking in resources for the mini-lessons we need to teach. This week I have to teach note-taking and paraphrasing. If you've got something great on either or both, please feel free to share your link in the comments!

1 thing I'm happy to do:
It's the long weekend, which means I get an extra day off so I'm far less stressed on a Sunday! I plan to spend lots of time with the hubby today outside of our cleaning and shopping! I love our days off together!

Wishing you all a lovely extended weekend!

  1. That is what I love about holiday weekends, you could relax and then worry Monday. However, for me, it is just any other weekend.

    Have an awesome day!!!

  3. I was going to go grocery shopping today, but I'm putting that off until tomorrow. It's icky weather out - freezing rain - and I don't want to chance driving on slick roads. Enjoy your NYC trip and your day off tomorrow!

    1. Cheryl, I wish I had made that decision! We went out early to beat the rain but the rain beat us home! It was a total downpour when we walked out of the store and we were soaked thoroughly! Nothing like two showers in one day! :-)

  4. I live only a 3 or 4 hours drive from NYC, but I haven't been there in more than a decade! The last time I went was to a concert. The time before that I went to the Bronx zoo. I need to plan a visit with my friend who is good at navigating the city. It intimidates me! Have fun!

    1. I'm a lot like you! I lived in upstate NY for the first two decades of my life and only went a handful of times and oddly enough, I've never actually been in Times Square! I'm excited to not only be going to NYC, but to also be staying in Times Square within walking distance of the Broadway show that we are attending! I've already committed to taking a taxi from the airport because I am terrified of trying to navigate anything beyond that by myself and I'm meeting up with a friend who is still in NY so I won't see her until I get to the hotel. I'm sure I'll be a bit anxious, but I'm hoping the excitement of it all will keep me from too much panic! :-)

  5. On three day weekends, I always seem to spend Monday working, but I'm trying to get it done today so the hubby and I can have a day off together. Have fun in NYC! Thanks for linking up!
